“Be wise like an image.” – Annette Messager
Reflecting on the interview and your ‘Capsule’ project, write about how you have become “wise like an image.”
You may be as creative as you wish for this assignment. Your written piece can be more more free form and poetic. It can include sketches, collage, a narrative, an interview of yourself, etc. Think of this assignment as predominantly writing an art piece.
The total word count can be anything so long as the final written product is conceptually sound and complete.
my ‘Capsule’ project:
My capsule is to express myself, and I made it into a sphere with gaps. The layer inside of the sphere is hard, while the outside is soft and colored. This also expresses me personally. As a female, many people only see our weak appearance, when we also have a strong heart. And I have all my faucets under this facade, and this artwork I show only one of them. When you look into my “heart” through the space between the ball, it contains my ballet dream. This is my personal experience. I want to express the real side of myself through this capsule. This is also my own view: a lot of personal experiences can’t be seen through a person’s appearance, you have to look inside. But it’s not so easy to see inside, because we all have our own multiple capsules protecting our secrets. I used hemp rope, wool, foam and paper cutting for the whole project. Soak the twine in diluted glue and loop it into a ball, then loop it around with wool. Make a stage out of foam. Paper-cuts were inspired by the collection of paper-cuts by Joseph Cornell.
