Context:

This exercise is designed for students to demonstrate their critical thinking skills as they relate to the content covered in this subject. Students should reflect on their own learning experiences outside of the theoretical space and demonstrate their understanding of event policies, strategy and the use of events to drive either corporate or community objectives.

 

Instructions:

You are to choose an event that you have attended and write a reflective journal demonstrating your understanding of content covered in the course. You will be assessed on your critical thinking skills, your understanding of key policy and strategy principles and how they relate to the event industry.

The best way to accomplish this task is to consider the following questions in relation to a specific event that you have attended or have knowledge of:

  1. Did the event drive social or economic development for the event host or key supporters?
  2. Who benefited from the event?
  3. Was there a return on investment? How was this measured?
  4. Why did the Government or Corporate support this event?
  5. Were there negative impacts? How were these mitigated?
  6. Is there an example of a competing event (public or private) that performed better on the delivery of community/corporate objectives?

Your reflective journal should not be a simple recitation of the material that has been covered. You should use your post to demonstrate your understanding of the subject matter and any broader implications of what you have learnt, including how you see your learning experiences extending beyond the classroom.

 

Referencing:

Cite your sources using correct APA 6th ed. style of referencing. In addition to academic references, you are encouraged to include diagrams, pictures, screen shots, links to websites, YouTube video or similar, providing they are relevant to the topic and/or illustrative of your example.

Similarly, you can reference from your personal experience either working on events or attending events.  The citation in the text would be of the form (Pers. Exp. 01). In the reference list this would be:

  • Exp. 01 <Date of the event>, <name of the event>, <Place where it was held> For example:
  • Exp. 01. 24 Oct 2017, Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi Beach NSW.

Referencing must be included in-text, with a reference list provided at the end of the post.

Submission Instructions: 

Submit your final Reflective Journal word document into Assessment 3 submission link in the Assessment section found in the main navigation menu of the subject Blackboard site. Your Reflective Journal will be formally graded via the Grade Centre by your learning facilitator.
